Vincent van GoghSuzanne could never have imagined that she would be writing about the discovery of an unknown Vincent van Gogh. Or that she would ever get to touch such a painting. Art wasn't anything she grew up around or interested in. She only learned about art when her mother (Mary) would share her stories about her art encounters with Mr. Koch at her flea market booth.
Her mother would mention artists that everyone has heard of, like Picasso and van Gogh, and other names Suzanne had never heard of, like Calder, Peterson, Manet, etc. Suzanne was young and focused on her own life. Buying and selling collectibles was what her mother did. However, as her mother shared her difficulties in getting anyone to help her with the artwork over the years, Suzanne began to find herself more interested in her mother's art story.
Over the years, when Suzanne would discuss the artwork with her mother, she would ask her mother many questions. But today we want to discuss just Vincent van Gogh.
- Suzanne: "How do you know it is a van Gogh and that it is titled "the Moroccan"?", Mary: "he told me it was by van Gogh and that it was titled "The Moroccan", he told me to write it down in the notes we wrote."
- Suzanne: "What notes?", Mary: "He had me start writing down what he was telling me and he would write things in my notes too."
- Suzanne: "Do you still have these notes?", Mary: "Yes."
- Suzanne: "Let me see these notes." - you can view these notes by clicking here - there are several places van Gogh is mentioned.
Over the years, Suzanne researched in depth each of the artists her mother purchased. Below is Suzanne's research for the Vincent van Gogh.
